Described as "She-Who-Shapes-The-Sacred-Land" in ancient Hawaiian chants, Pele is a passionate, volatile, and capricious volcano Goddess. Dwelling in the craters of the Kilauea Volcano, she has been sending ribbons of fiery lava down the mountainside adding new land around the southeastern shore this way.
Pele's face has been known to mysteriously appear in photographs of eruptions.
